£8m for da Vinci drawing

A silverpoint study of a horse and rider by Leonardo da Vinci has fetched more than £8m at auction.

Horse and Rider sold for £8,143,750, including buyer's premium, at Christie's in London.

It shares the world record price for an Old Master drawing with Michelangelo's The Study For The Risen Christ, also sold at a Christie's auction last year.

The da Vinci work, said to be the most significant drawing by the Renaissance master to be sold at auction for nearly a century, went to an anonymous telephone bidder.
