Doctor attacked after patient dies

A doctor in India has been assaulted by a gang after one his patients died.

The doctor was treating a 24-year-old pregnant woman who died while in his care.

The woman was being treated by the doctor in the Nandigram area, south-west of Calcutta.

As her condition worsened, the doctor escaped through the back door, reports said.

The woman's husband found her dead and the doctor's house was subsequently ransacked and he was assaulted.

The doctor was rescued by police, who then arrested him.
