2 killed, 600 injured in China quakes

An earthquake in south west China has left two people dead and injured more than 600.

The magnitude-5.8 earthquake struck dozens of towns and villages along the border of Yunnan and Sichuan provinces.

In Yunnan's Ninglang county, one person was killed, 27 were seriously injured and 539 suffered slight injuries.

The quake hit 16 villages and towns with a total population of 220,000 and caused £10.2m in damage.

More than 600 livestock animals also were dead or missing it has been reported. The quake also damaged 11 reservoirs, four power plants and six bridges.

Across the border in Sichuan's Yanyuan county, the quake struck eight towns and 43 villages, killing one person, injuring 39 and causing losses of £15.4m.
