Six people charged with killing journalist

Six people have been charged with killing of one of Mozambique's best-known journalists.

Carlos Cardoso, 49, the founder and editor of the independent newspaper Metical, was shot dead in the Mozambican capital Maputo in November.

Businessman Ayob Abdul Satar and former bank manager Vicente Ramaya are accused of ordering the murder.

Abdul Satar's brother, Momade, Anibal Antonio dos Santos, Carlitos Rachid and Manuel Fernandes have been charged with carrying out the murder.

In 25 years as a reporter, Cardoso gained a reputation as a respected journalist who highlighted social problems.

He also served as a member of the Maputo Municipal Assembly representing a small independent party.
