Teen in court over murder of vicar

A 17-year-old boy was today appearing in court charged with the murder of a vicar whose severed body parts were found buried in a shallow grave in woodland.

Rev Ronald Glazebrook, 81, disappeared from his home in Dane Road, St Leonards, East Sussex, UK, on April 30.

The teenager and another 17-year-old boy, both from St Leonards, are also charged with concealing the vicar’s body, preventing burial, a Sussex Police spokesman said.

The youths were arrested on Thursday and kept in custody overnight at Hastings police station.

They were appearing at Eastbourne Magistrates Court today, police said.

The severed limbs of Rev Glazebrook were discovered just 500yds from Hastings police station, in a sports bag buried on an island, in a small pond, in a wooded area behind a sports centre.

Officers started a search of the island on Thursday morning after receiving information on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr Glazebrook, who taught abroad in the 1950s, was retired but became a popular helper at Christ Church, London Road, St Leonards, where he also delivered sermons, after retiring to the town in 1983.

He was reported missing by his daughter Christine, 45, of Surrey. The vicar was last seen walking his dog Jonti near his flat in Dane Road.
