Indian cyclone leaves 3,000 homeless

A cyclone has left more than 3,000 people homeless in India.

Three people died as the cyclone ripped through the state of Meghalaya for three days.

The full extent of the damage isn't known as communications have been badly damaged.

The worst-hit areas appear to be the districts of the east and west Khasi hills, Ri-Bhoi and Jayantia.

The government says it will give between 1,000 and 5,000 rupees (£15 to £75) to each affected family, it wasreported.

The Meghalaya State Electricity Board said it has started work to restore power.
