Ten people were killed when a light aircraft crashed in Argentina today, the country’s air force said.

The single-engine Cessna Caravan crashed at 6am local time near Roque Perez, a cattle-ranching area about 125 miles southwest of Buenos Aires which has been hit by recent floods.

All 10 people on board - eight passengers and two crew - died.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.

Officials said the plane took off from a small airport in Don Torcuato, a suburb just north of Buenos Aires, and was en route to Trelew in southern Argentina.
