Hundreds of Colombians have been evacuated from their homes because of a swarm of killer bees.

Around 50 residents have been stung by the African bees in Barranquilla.

No serious injuries have been reported.

Dozens of fumigators are pumping smoke into the area to divert the bees from residents.

Children are particularly at risk from the stings which can cause fatal allergic reactions.

Authorities were waiting for nightfall, when the bees would be less active, before attempting to remove a beehive from a tree.

The killer bees, which originate from Brazil, have caused several deaths in Colombia over the years.
