Man accused of Paris serial killings goes on trial
A Frenchman suspected of raping and killing seven young women in Paris has gone on trial.
Guy Georges, 38, is also standing trial accused of four other assaults.
He was arrested in March 1998 during a nationwide manhunt.
From 1991 to 1997, seven young women were discovered murdered with their throats slit in eastern neighbourhoods of the capital.
The attacker apparently got to know his victims and talked his way into their apartments before killing them.
The trial is expected to last several weeks, with more than 100 people due to testify.
The accused faces a life sentence without parole eligibility for 22 years if found guilty.
