Fish stunt costs comic his fingers

A Japanese TV 'torture show' contestant had parts of his fingers amputated after being forced to carry a frozen fish in freezing temperatures.

The young comedian took part in the stunt in a bid to boost his career.

But he suffered frostbite and lost a third of his left index finger and the tops of four others.

The producers of Night in Night, Quiz Shinsuke-kun, have apologised toTakahito Nishina.

A programme spokesman said: "The network simply didn't take enough care with what went on.

"We will rethink the way we look after performers and teach staff to take even more care with safety issues."

Mr Nishina is expected to be offered compensation.
