An investigation is under way after a freight train carrying empty containers used for spent nuclear fuel derailed in Scotland.

The incident happened near Dunbar in East Lothian shortly before 10am.

A spokesman for British Transport Police says the train was travelling at a low speed north from Carlisle.

The derailment happened next to the east coast mainline.

The spokesman added: "We don't expect any major effect on east coast services."

Lothian and Borders police say no-one was injured in the incident.
