Vietnam veteran ends Clinton haircut protest

A Vietnam veteran went without a haircut for eight years in protest against "draft-dodger" Bill Clinton.

Harry Hunt was upset when Clinton took office as president because he did not serve in the war.

Mr Hunt finally had a haircut when Clinton left office - after his hair had grown to 28 inches.

He said: "It wasn't an issue of Clinton being a Democrat or a Republican. It was the idea he was a confessed draft dodger and he was commander and chief of the armed forces."

Mr Hunt's hair, which reached to his waist, caused difficulties in his work as a mechanic. He said: "It was a challenge, especially working around mechanical equipment. I just pulled it in a pony tail all the time."

Hunt, from Minnesota, sent the cut-off hair to Locks for Tots, a charitable organisation that makes wigs for seriously ill children.
