Father learns more about Philippine kidnap daughter's disappearance

A man whose stepdaughter was kidnapped by guerillas in the Philippines says he has learned more about the six-year-old's disappearance.

But he still does not know exactly who is holding Eiman April Grant.

Douglas Grant says he is determined to stand firm and not pay any ransom demand.

The girl was snatched from her home by four men, believed to be Islamic separatists, who are thought to be holding her for a ransom of 100,000 pesos (£1,300).

Speaking from his home in Inverness, Mr Grant, 50, says his wife Mina, 43, who is in the Philippines, has given him more details about the kidnap.

"She (Mina) said there were people who came into the house with weapons. They asked for money, got a certain amount, asked for more and took my daughter," he said.

"Mina is talking about maybe we should have money ready to give to them, but if we give it to them, what do we do next?"

Mr Grant says they are still no nearer to finding out exactly who had taken Eiman April, but says his wife believes that the girl is probably within a radius of 10 or 15 miles.

Mr Grant says he cannot travel to be with his wife and their 22-month-old daughter Khadija, as the region has now been declared a no-go area.
