68-year-old dies after plane trip to Australia
A Welsh man has died from "economy class syndrome" after a flight to Australia.
Thomas Lamb, from Cardiff, died after falling ill on the journey from Heathrow to Melbourne via Singapore.
The 68-year-old complained of breathing difficulties on arrival in Australia and was taken to hospital, where he went into a coma for five days before dying from a deep vein thrombosis which had made its way to his lungs.
Two of his daughters, Linda Jones and Jennifer Lamb, flew out to be with him when he died.
Now the family is considering taking legal action against Singapore Airlines.
Mrs Jones, 38, said: "Somebody is responsible for this and they have to be held to account. My father was full of life, he had another 20 years in him and now he is dead.
"Compensation won't bring him back but you have to hit these people in the pocket."
Mr Lamb, who was travelling to Australia to visit his nephews, died in November but the case has only now come to light.
A spokesman for Singapore Airlines said it was investigating the incident and added: "We are very sorry to learn of the death of Mr Lamb. We offer our condolences to the family.
"We have always been concerned for the health of our customers and we will continue to explore ways to ensure the comfort and health of our passengers."
Two other British women are thought to have died from similar symptoms after long flights with other airline companies.
