Woman unaware she was carrying quintuplets
Manita Singh, 25, had never had an ultrasound when she was admitted to hospital on Saturday.
Just over half an hour later she had given birth to five healthy, albeit very tiny, girls.
The babies, all weighing 1.5 kg each, are now under doctorsâ supervision in the neo-natal Intensive Care Unit.
The Singhs, who lost a baby born prematurely in 2014, are overjoyed, but doctors have warned that the babies are not out of danger.
Dr Tekam, who led a team of medics in the delivery, said: âThis is the first case in my career where I have delivered five babies through normal birth.
âWe are very happy for the parents but the babies are under supervision as they all are premature.
âWe are doing every bit to save them.â
New dad Mahesh Singh, 26, said: âI am extremely grateful to God for blessing us with not one, but five children.
âWe were heartbroken when we lost our first child, a son, immediately after birth two years ago. I believe God has compensated the loss. I only hope that they all survive and I can give them a wonderful life.â
