Frank Bruno, 54, wants to box again and fight his demons
The 54-year-old, who has bipolar disorder, said he was âcoming back into boxingâ to cope with the effects of his medication, which, he told ITVâs This Morning, âmade me suicidal â mess up your head, mess up your clock â you canât sleepâ.
âIâm walking around break-dancing, Iâve got so much energy,â said the former WBC heavyweight.
âI feel like superman. Iâm going to the gym all the time, working hard â thatâs why Iâve got to come into boxing ... to get this out of my system, because I donât want to end up in Broadmoor hospital.
âIâm coming back into boxing.â
Asked by co-presenter Phillip Schofield if the move was a good idea, he replied: âI havenât got no choice.
"I train every day. I canât really sit down and let these so-called promoters say that their guy beat me in two rounds â and Iâm alive and Iâve got to take that.
âItâs my job, itâs my profession... youâre good at your job, Iâm good at my job.â
Bruno was recently pictured training in the ring with Ricky Hatton, another former world champion.
Fans reacted to the announcement with trepidation. TV presenter Paddy McGuinness posted on Twitter: âBack in the day, me & my Dad watched all Frank Brunoâs fights, we loved him.
"Hearing heâs planning on fighting again makes me sad.â
Trainer David Coldwell wrote: âIs this comeback talk tongue-in-cheek?
"Please tell me no-one would actually âhelpâ Frank Bruno to fight in the ring again?!
"I donât actually believe any established promoter would put Frank Bruno on one of their shows.â
