Sir Elton John ends Dolce and Gabanna boycott
Elton John has said he has forgiven Dolce and Gabanna for their comments about IVF children and is looking forward to wearing their clothes again.
The singer called for a boycott of designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana in March after they made comments to an Italian magazine calling children conceived by IVF âsyntheticâ.
Elton has two sons, Zachary, four, and Elijah, two, with husband David Furnish.
He wrote on his Instagram page: âBig thanks to Stefano and Domenico for the apology over their comments about IVF children.
âWe have always been big fans of their work.
âNow that the slate is clean we look forward wearing their designs once again.
âWe love Italy!â
Business partners Dolce and Gabbana, who are both gay and were formerly a couple, have previously voiced their rejection of same-sex marriage, and in March Dolce told Panorama: â...what I call children of chemistry donât convince me, synthetic childrenâ.
He said: âWombs for hire, (are a) choice from a catalogue. And then you have to explain to this child who is the mother.
âTo procreate ought to be an act of love, today not even psychiatrists are ready to confront the effects of these experiments.â
But in a new interview with Vogue published this week he apologised.
Dolce said: âI am so sorry. It was not my intention to offend anyone. Iâve done some soul-searching.
âIâve talked to Stefano a lot about this. Iâve realised that my words were inappropriate, and I apologise.â
When the first interview was published in March, Elton hit back on social media, writing: âHow dare you refer to my beautiful children as âsyntheticâ.
âI shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana.â
Responding to the boycott calls, Gabbana later said âit was never our intention to judge other peopleâs choices. We do believe in freedom and loveâ.
