Quirky World...Nudes pictures threat to Watson ‘a hoax’
Earlier this week, a web page entitled Emma You Are Next, featuring an image of the Harry Potter star next to a countdown clock, appeared to have been created by a user of image-sharing website 4chan, on which hacked photos of celebrities including actresses Jennifer Lawrence and Kaley Cuoco and model Kate Upton were posted last month.
Watson was highly critical of the hackers both at the time and this week, when she launched the women’s right movement #HeForShe at the United Nations, and the threat was thought to be in response.
But now the website redirects to rantic.com, purporting to be a “social media marketing enterprise”, with a message to US President Barack Obama urging that 4chan be shut down.
USA: Firefighters doused the flames at a North Texas house — and made sure its lone resident didn’t croak.
The Fort Worth crew sent to a blaze in Westworth Village, searched the house and found no humans while bringing the blaze under control.
Then the owners’ daughter, arrived and asked firefighters to look for a missing occupant — the family frog.
Intrepid firefighter Craig Tipton hopped back inside and located the unscathed pet amphibian in its container.
USA: A football kicked into the crowd is bouncing back to Rod Stewart in the form of a lawsuit by a Southern California man who says his nose was broken at a Las Vegas concert in October 2012.
Mostafa Kashe’s civil negligence complaint filed in Nevada state court alleges that a ball that the singer kicked from the stage at the Caesars Palace resort hit him.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages of at least $10,000. Kashe’s lawyer, Larry Weinsteen, says Kashe has “substantial” injuries, including losing his sense of smell.
ENGLAND: Almost half of Britons still eat a meal together as a household every day — but two-thirds of them are watching at least one screen and a fifth are in front of two or more screens, a survey of eating habits has revealed.
Just over half of people can cook 10 or more dishes from scratch but a full 10% cannot cook a thing — including 16% of men, the YouGov poll of 10,000 adults to mark the 25th anniversary of BBC Good Food found.
USA: A man jokingly sought $10 from a crowdfunding website to pay for his first attempt at making potato salad — and ended up raising $55,000.
Zack Brown, from Ohio, went on Kickstarter to buy potato salad ingredients, and his effort took on a life of its own and attracted worldwide attention as the amount grew.
Now, as well as sending some of the cash to charity, Brown is making good on his promise to throw a party with the proceeds. He is planning PotatoStock, an all-ages, charity-minded party in Columbus city centre, featuring bands, food trucks, and beer vendors.
Idaho Potato Commission and corporate sponsors have donated supplies for 136kg of potato salad for the event.
USA: A woman is bringing the soothing sounds of the harp to the gorillas, orangutans and monkeys at a zoo.
Terri Tacheny, a therapeutic harpist, had always enjoyed visiting Como Zoo in St Paul, Minnesota, with her young daughters — except for the Primate House, where she thought the animals seemed a little lethargic.
Her solution was a little harp music — she thought if the music helped calm humans, it would work for the primates too. She says the gorillas purr when she plays, which shows they are happy.
