Paul McCartney re-issues five albums in App form

Paul McCartney has taken a huge step into the world of digital music by re-releasing five of his classic records in App format.

The former Beatle has sanctioned the Concord group to re-issue albums by McCartney as a solo artist and with his band Wings.

'Band on the Run', 'RAM', 'McCartney', 'McCartney II' and 'Wings Over America' have all been given the digital treatment.

The albums all feature extras including newly re-mastered tracks, demo footage and new photos. The original artwork is also included with each album.

McCartney's work with the Beatles was not allowed to be sold in digital format until 2010 when he and the other surviving member, Ringo Starr, as well as the estates of John Lennon and George Harrison, allowed the music to feature on iTunes.

Meanwhile, the world's most successful songwriter has said he has no plans to retire at the age of 72 and will only do so when he "feels like it".

He told Rolling Stone magazine that he thought about retiring when he was 50 but says as long as he can play well, he'll keep going.

"I thought about it for a second and thought, 'Nah'. When will you give up? When will it give out? Who knows? But the margin has been stretched these days.

"The Stones go out now, and I go to their show and I think, 'It doesn't matter that they're old gits. They can play great'. And I talk to young kids who say exactly the same thing: 'They play good.'"

In other Beatles related news, Ron Howard will direct a documentary that will focus on the fab four's touring years between 1960 and 1966.
