Aussie admits shame about her abuse of Asian woman

The woman mocked the language and facial features of the other passenger on a Sydney to Newcastle train on Wednesday.

Police said a woman had been arrested and was being questioned over the racial abuse at a Central Coast police station.

A YouTube user named Kareem Abdul uploaded video of the attack which went viral. The woman, identified as Sue Wilkins, 55, told the Nine Network she just had a “brain snap” and couldn’t stop.

“I was just getting all this anger out at anybody that would be near me, anybody at all.

“No one deserves to be spoken to like that.”

Wilkins also attacked a man who stood up to her after two children refused to give their seats up.

“Who is this little jerk-off? He can only get a gook — he can’t even get a regular girlfriend. It is so sad,” she said, as passengers groaned in offence.

“Is it really that small that you can’t get an Aussie girl? Poor man. Look at this bogan, he has got a gook.”

When the woman referred to as an “Asian” tries to defend herself, the abusive passenger makes fun of her accent before saying: “What’s wrong with Hong Kong? Why did you come to Australia?”

She then turns her attention back towards the man, calling him “sad” and “pathetic”.

Wilkins, who conceded afterwards her behaviour was disgusting and awful, said she had a rotten day and had been scammed out of $100,000 (€68,000) from a man she had met on a dating website.

Police spoke to Wilkins on Wednesday when she alighted at Strathfield in Sydney’s west.

They decided to let her “go about her journey“, police transport command assistant commissioner Max Mitchell told reporters.

Mitchell didn’t know why she was allowed to walk free but stressed she would be charged for her “abhorrent and unacceptable behaviour”.

“The person responsible will be prosecuted.”

If found guilty of offensive behaviour, she faces a $500 fine.

“This person has committed offensive behaviour. It is a crime that we will not tolerate particularly in regards to the racial motivation behind this incident.”

Sydney Trains chief Howard Collins said he was shocked by the rant and the company would be working with police to investigate. “I’m just amazed — we’ve got to stamp this out,” he said.

In April, Rebecca Blessington, 28, was charged after allegedly racially abusing two Asian women on a train from Town Hall to Bondi.
