Missing Wisconsin baby found alive at fuel station

US police say a newborn baby missing from a southern Wisconsin home has been found alive at an eastern Iowa gas station.

Town of Beloit police chief Steven Kopp said an officer checking along an interstate near West Branch, Iowa, found the nearly week-old Kayden Powell yesterday morning.

Gas station manager Jay Patel says the baby was found in a closed, grey plastic storage bin and that the FBI took it and surveillance video from the station.

Last night, no arrests had been made in connection to the incident.

Authorities say the child appeared to be in good condition and has been taken to a hospital for evaluation.

They had been looking for the baby since early on Thursday when his mother discovered him missing from a cradle, or bassinet, in a Town of Beloit home.

Federal investigators joined the search for the baby boy after his 18-year-old mother woke at about 4.30am on Thursday to find Kayden missing from the room where she was sleeping.

The baby’s mother, Brianna Marshall, and the infant’s 23-year-old father, Bruce Powell, had been staying at the house.

Police said about 40 officers from federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies were working on the case, but no suspects had been identified and no arrests made.
