Fair reopens after 5 deaths

The tragedy occurred when wind gusts of 100-110km/h toppled the stage where an estimated 12,000 people were waiting to see the band, Sugarland on Saturday night.

About 50 people were taken to hospital, some critically injured.

Governor Mitch Daniels was among those planning to attend a memorial yesterday morning.

The fair cancelled all activities on Sunday as officials investigated the accident and tried to field difficult questions about whether the tragedy could have been prevented.

The accident was the worst at the Indiana fairgrounds since an explosion killed 74 people attending an ice skating show in 1963.
