U2 musical opens to mixed reviews

ALMOST 18 months after its initial scheduled opening date, the $70 million (€50m) production of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, backed by U2’s Bono and the Edge, has finally opened to mixed reviews on Broadway.

Delays, accidents including one that saw a stuntman suffer a skull fracture and cracked vertebrae, poor audience reaction and money woes had threatened to turn the musical into a farce.

The show’s opening was initially set for February 18, 2010, but financial issues forced producers to suspend work.
