Last of war crimes suspects

RATKO Mladic was the last of three Serbian leaders wanted for war crimes following the capture of Radovan Karadzic and Slobodan Milosevic.

Karadzic was arrested in July 2008 after almost 13 years on the run. He was charged with the genocide of around 8,000 unarmed Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica in July 1995.

He was charged at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia with war crimes, including the kidnap, abuse, rape and killing of women and girls during the Bosnian war and is held responsible for orchestrating the shelling of Sarajevo in 1995.

Karadzic was found living under a heavy disguise, working as an alternative medicine practitioner in Belgrade. His trial was suspended and he remains in custody.

Slobodan Milosevic, the former Yugoslav president, was accused of responsibility for the Balkan wars in the 1990s.

He was charged with genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes.

Milosevic, was arrested by Serbian authorities after he was ousted from power and transferred to The Hague in 2001. He died of a heart attack on March 11, 2006.
