13 shot dead in Brazil school

AT least 13 people have been killed after a gunman opened fire in a Rio de Janeiro elementary school, Brazilian officials said.

The gunman was among the dead, although it is not clear if he shot himself or was killed by police.

Fire department spokesman Evandro Bezerra said that at least 20 people were wounded in the shooting.

The gunman was a 23-year-old former student at the school, a police spokeswoman told the AP.
