THE leader of the British eurosceptics in the European Parliament has refused to apologise for calling the EU president a “low grade bank clerk” and has been fined almost €3,000.

Nigel Farage said that he would only apologise to bank clerks the world over. “If I caused them offence I am very sorry,” he said, for likening them to the former Belgian prime minister.

Farage hurled insults at Herman Van Rompuy during a debate in the parliament last week saying he had the “charisma of a damp rag” and describing Belgium as a “non-country”.
