Inquiry into protest death

THE Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said yesterday it has completed a criminal investigation into the death of Ian Tomlinson during the London anti-G20 protests in April and handed the evidence to prosecutors.

Inquiry into protest death

The commission has been looking into the actions of an officer seen to be in contact with Tomlinson, 47, who died of a heart attack shortly after he was shoved to the ground.

Tomlinson, a newspaper seller, was on his way home when he became caught up in the demonstrations.

“This investigation is one of the largest ever undertaken by the IPCC and it has been the subject of huge public scrutiny,” said IPCC Commissioner for London Deborah Glass.

She said the file of evidence had been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service.
