Suu Kyi verdict due August 11

A GOVERNMENT official says the Burmese court expected to deliver a verdict in opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s trial has announced it will give its ruling on August 11.

The verdict was scheduled to be delivered yesterday. It was not immediately clear why the hearing was postponed.

The 64-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner is charged with violating the terms of her long house arrest when an American intruder swam across a lake and spent two nights at her home in early May.
