Man crushed to death inside bin

A MAN whose body was found among rubbish at a waste transfer site has been named by police.

A postmortem examination revealed that Scott Williams, 35, died of crush injuries before being discovered at the Sussex Waste Recycling Ltd site in North Quay Road, Newhaven, East Sussex, on Monday morning.

The 35-year-old, from Wembley, north-west London, was reported missing an hour after his body was found by a member of staff.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said detectives were investigating how Mr Williams came to be in the dustcart, which contained rubbish collected from around Brighton.

The spokeswoman said: “It is assumed that Scott, who had been out with a friend and was seen in public houses in the city until 1am on Sunday, had been in one of the wheelie bins.

“Police are treating his death as unexplained rather than suspicious.”

Staff at Sussex Waste Recycling Ltd were sent home for the day after the discovery.
