Italian footballer wins damages for Zidane jibe claim

ITALIAN footballer Marco Materazzi has won an apology and undisclosed damages from the English Daily Star over claims he racially insulted Zinedine Zidane during the World Cup final in 2006.

The newspaper story alleged he called the French player’s mother a “terrorist whore” during the final, resulting in Zidane headbutting him.

The English Daily Star said it apologised for the “distress and embarrassment” caused.
