The €1m Lamborghini that’s already sold out
The Reventon was unveiled at Frankfurt’s international autoshow, a very limited edition car that looks more like an arrow than anything on four wheels.
“As soon as the word got out, we sold out in four days,” said chief executive Stephan Winkelmann.
Most of the buyers were men from the United States, Lamborghini’s biggest market, he said.
Some of them are already owners of a Lamborghini, which competes with the likes of Ferrari in speed and exclusivity.
Lamborghini, which is run by Volkswagen’s Audi division, will start making the Reventon in January and deliver them in October next year.
Another motor to attract lots of attention, this time at the other end of the affordability scale, was Toyota’s new iQ concept car. The show pushed its green theme to the limit, but if heads of the world’s biggest auto companies were clearly on board, questions remained about whether clients would follow.
Wahei Hirai, manager of Toyota Motor Corporation’s design section, explained: “In an urban environment, people want to express themselves through dynamic and on-the-edge design, but at the same time rational factors such as size, functionality and CO2 emissions cannot be ignored.
“Bringing these contradictory aims together in synergy was critical to the iQ concept, it’s a way of thinking we call the ‘J-factor’, a philosophy at the heart of all our activities,” he said.
