Suicide bombs that left 52 dead

THE discovery of a car bomb in central London comes just under two years since devastating suicide attacks rocked the capital.

Fifty-two people were killed and 784 injured by four bombs which exploded in London on July 7, 2005.

The four suicide bombers also died in the attacks, which came the day after London was announced as the host city for the 2012 Olympics, also coinciding with the G8 summit attended by world leaders at Gleneagles in Perthshire.

Three bombs exploded simultaneously on the London Underground and one on a bus an hour later.

At 8.50am Shehzad Tanweer set off his device between Liverpool Street and Aldgate stations on the eastbound Circle line, killing seven people and injuring 171. At the same time, Mohammad Sidique Khan detonated his bomb on a westbound Circle line train at Edgware Road, killing six people and injuring 163.

The third Underground bomb was triggered by Germaine Lindsay on a Piccadilly line train between King’s Cross and Russell Square, killing 26 and injuring 340. At 9.47am, Hasib Hussain detonated his bomb on a bus in Tavistock Square, leaving 13 dead and 110 injured.
