Dunblane massacre: father ‘horrified’ by US shootings
Dr Mick North has campaigned for stricter gun controls in Britain and abroad since losing his daughter Sophie in the 1996 tragedy.
Scout leader Thomas Hamilton killed 16 children and their teacher when he opened fire at Dunblane Primary School. He ended the rampage by shooting himself dead.
Dr North, 59, said: “These multiple shootings happen too often, but each is just as sickening.
“I am still shaken after hearing of more young lives lost.
“The number killed is horrifying.”
Charlie Clydesdale, father of five-year-old Dunblane victim Victoria, said: “In America it seems easy to access guns, but this must be a wake-up call.”
In 1997, despite widespread opposition from the gun lobby, the British government introduced tougher gun controls.
