Rod’s daughter weighs in on size zero debate
Kimberly Stewart, recently voted FHM’s sexiest woman in the world, said people often have unrealistic role models and should not expect to force themselves down to the small size.
Her comments come after months of debate about the prevalence of skinny women in the fashion and celebrity worlds, which followed the deaths of two models last year.
It has been claimed that the use of ultra-thin models on the catwalk does not promote a healthy body image, and can add to pressure on young women to slim.
The controversy was reignited last month when it was revealed that Allegra Versace, daughter of the famous fashion designer, had been battling anorexia for many years.
Stewart said today: “I am not an advocate of size zero (a British size four)... All too often we have unrealistic role models. No-one should be a size zero unless they are naturally that size.
“When I was younger, I found it hard to put on weight despite eating lots and taking protein drinks and that’s fine, but no-one should push themselves to that degree or feel pressure to be unnaturally or unhealthily thin.”
Stewart, a model herself, is said to keep her figure in check with a healthy diet and an exercise regime of yoga, spinning, running and, more unusually, pole dancing lessons.
