Missing woman gave TV interview about fears

A PROSTITUTE feared dead after two more bodies were discovered yesterday by police investigating the murders of three sex workers took part in a chilling TV interview just days before she vanished.

Paula Clennell gave an interview to ITV Anglia on December 5, saying she was prepared to dice with danger on the streets because, “I need the money”.

Amid concerns that a serial killer was on the loose, Ms Clennell headed back to Ipswich’s red light district. She has not been seen since Saturday night.

Officers investigating the deaths of three other prostitutes in the Ipswich area were alerted this afternoon by a member of the public.

One body was found near Levington, a village to the south of Ipswich and just a few miles from Suffolk Police Headquarters yesterday.

Minutes later, a police helicopter spotted a second corpse nearby.

Detective Chief Superintendent Stewart Gull, who is leading the murder enquiry, said the “natural assumption” was that the bodies were those of missing prostitutes Ms Clennell and Annette Nicholls.

The discovery means police are now hunting a serial killer, who has claimed the lives of five women.

In the interview, broadcast on ITV News, the 24-year-old said the killings had made her “a bit wary about getting into cars”, but added that she would probably do it anyway.

She said there were fewer men and sex workers around, probably because of the police presence.

“The girls are probably wary about coming out now,” she said.

Ms Clennell admitted that she had “a couple of nasty experiences” including being beaten up once.

Ms Clennell’s father Brian, who had not known his daughter was a sex worker, fought back tears as he said he felt “sick” at the thought that one of the bodies discovered yesterday was that of his daughter.

Earlier, he pleaded for people to get in touch to help find the “pervert” and “psycho” carrying out the murders.

The naked body of Gemma Adams, 25, was found on December 2 in woodland at Hintlesham, on the outskirts of Ipswich. She had last been seen on November 15.

On December 8, the body of Tania Nicol, 19, was found in nearby Copdock. The first to go missing, she was last seen on October 30.

The naked body of the third prostitute, Anneli Alderton, 24, from Colchester in Essex, was found at the weekend in Nacton, a few miles further east.

Hearing what had happened to Gemma Adams, 25, missing since November 15, had made her feel “sick”, Ms Clennell said.

A friend told police that Ms Clennell spoke to her on Sunday evening, but Ms Clennell has not been in touch with police.

Mr Clennell had earlier appealed to his daughter, on ITV News: “You do not have anything to worry about. You have a good mother and a loving sister and they just want her back.”
