Boy died of head injuries

POLICE looking for a man whose wife and children were found dead in the family home near Manchester last night revealed details of one of the boy’s brutal deaths.

Boy died of head injuries

Schoolboy Adam Arshad was found along with his mother, Uzma Rahan, 32, and younger brother, Abbas, eight, and sister, Henne, six, on Sunday evening at the family home in Cheadle Hulme, Greater Manchester. Detectives said he died from massive head injuries.

Detectives believe the family died up to four weeks ago but their bodies lay undiscovered for up to a month.

Ms Rahan’s husband, Rahan Arshad, 36, vanished at around the same time as the murders. On Monday night, his car was found at Heathrow Airport.

Police are anxious to speak to Mr Arshad, and there are fears the taxi driver may have fled to Pakistan, where he has relatives.

The discovery was made shortly after 5.05pm on Sunday when officers were called to the house in Turves Road.

Police had been called to the house last Friday but when officers arrived, there was no “immediate concern” for the family’s safety.

A neighbour is believed to have contacted the police two days later after knocking on the door and getting no reply but noticing a “stomach-churning” smell coming from the house.

An international police manhunt was launched and police spotted Mr Arshad’s silver BMW 320 Diesel M sports car in Heathrow airport’s Terminal 3 at around 9pm on Monday.

Detective Superintendent Martin Bottomley, who is leading the murder hunt, said the family had lived in the house for around 18 months and the young children were all pupils at a local primary school.

Ms Rahan was from Pakistan while her husband is British-born.

Mr Bottomley said officers were in contact with members of both families, but had not yet spoken directly to relatives in Pakistan.
