Man charged over Omagh bomb car

A 34-YEAR-OLD man was last night charged with supplying the car used to plant the Real IRA bomb which killed 29 people in Omagh, Co Tyrone, in 1998.

The PSNI said the man, from Dundalk, would appear before a magistrate in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, this morning.

The man was detained by police in the Border town of Newry, Co Down, on Monday.

The PSNI said last night the man had been charged by detectives from the Omagh bomb investigation team with providing property of use to terrorists.

The charge states that between August 11 and 16, 1998, he supplied the maroon Vauxhall Cavalier car which exploded in Omagh.

It caused devastation and the worst loss of life in any single terrorist attack

in Northern Ireland during 30 years of violence. The 34-year-old has been in custody for two days after being arrested at a checkpoint on Monday.

Both the gardaí and the PSNI insist the investigation in to the Omagh bombing is continuing despite criticism from relatives of the 29 people who died.
