'Grubs up' takes on new meaning
The museum’s natural history centre is offering cooked insects as nutritious crunchy snacks to hungry guests who think they might have the stomach to swallow water beetles, crickets, locusts and grubs.
The insects will have been roasted and some of them covered in chocolate.
Mike Graham, the centre’s curatorial manager, said: “These insects have been bred for eating and are wholesome and nutritious. People think nothing about eating prawns and shrimps so why not insects?”
Mr Graham didn’t say whether or not there was an alternative menu or where the museum was getting its lunch supplies from.
“In some cultures many people get much of their nourishment from these tiny creatures,” he insisted.
The museum’s aim is to introduce people to cultural differences and visitors will be able to have a taste on Thursdays between 1pm and 4pm.
