Fugitive found in tourist town

AN American fugitive who has been on the run with her son in New Zealand for three years has been arrested by police and will be returned to the US next week, the US Immigration Service said yesterday.

Juliette Gilbert and her nine-year-old son Sky were picked up on Sunday as she attempted to rent a home in the North Island tourist town of Rotorua.

Gilbert, 37, has been sought by the FBI since fleeing Bainbridge Island, Washington state, with Sky in April 2002, after US courts awarded joint custody to Sky’s father.
