Mother begged doctor to treat son

A MOTHER yesterday told how she begged a doctor to treat her son as he suffered a fatal asthma attack.

Mother begged doctor to treat son

Eight-year-old Owen Charleston, from Cumbernauld in the west of Scotland, was twice taken to his local medical centre by his mother Michelle Hynes.

But she said on the day Owen died, August 19, doctors at the town’s Central Health Centre claimed the youngster was suffering from a panic attack.

Speaking at a press conference at the office of her Glasgow solicitors, Ms Hynes called for a Fatal Accident

Inquiry (FAI) into the death saying her concerns had been “dismissed” by staff and Owen’s medical history had been ignored.

The mother’s solicitor Fiona Sasan said they were asking the procurator fiscal to instigate an inquiry into how the schoolboy died and any mistakes that were made in his treatment.

Earlier yesterday an MSP backed the call for an inquiry for an investigation into Owen’s treatment.

Andrew Wilson, SNP MSP for Central Scotland, was approached by the boy’s mother and has written to both the procurator fiscal and Lord Advocate calling for a probe. He said: “A

report has gone to the procurator fiscal’s office and the trust will play a full part in any inquiry that takes place.”
