The four suspects, aged 16 to 20, were arrested in and around Copenhagen on Thursday and held in jail as police continued their investigation.

“We had a very short period to investigate, but our information indicated that their action was imminent,” police spokesman Joern Bro said.

The arrests were linked to an investigation in Bosnia in which a Turkish, a Swedish and a Bosnian national were arrested in Sarajevo last week on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack.

Bosnian newspaper Slobodna Bosna said police found explosives, firearms, suicide vests and a video cassette showing three masked men praying and asking God to forgive them for their self-sacrifice.

In raiding the suspects’ homes, Danish police seized computers, computer discs, books with radical Muslim literature and cellular phones. Police also found $32,400 in cash.

Meanwhile, a senior Russian prosecutor said that militants who raided a southern city earlier this month had planned to seize civilian planes and use them in suicide attacks.

Russia’s Deputy Prosecutor General Nikolai Shepel said his office was looking at information that the militants who raided the city of Nalchik on October 13 had planned to seize the city’s airport and use planes located there for suicide attacks.
