According to the Bank of Greece, the missing money was noticed at the start of the weekend when the branch manager in the port of Kalamata asked an employee to count the cash in the vault.

The bank said it was unclear how the money vanished as the sealed vault is under 24-hour armed guard with video surveillance and it takes more than one bank employee to open it.
