De Beers and Cartier were conned into delivering the diamonds to bogus fashion shoots in London.

They were told the diamonds would be worn by models on trendy “urban” photographic shoots.

However, on each occasion the couriers were ambushed.

Detectives are focusing on identifying the person who convinced both firms they were setting up a legitimate fashion shoot.

The first of the robberies happened close to Shoreditch High Street on Wednesday.

Earrings, a necklace and a ring, each contained in boxes stamped with the De Beers logo, were taken.

The second raid took place close to Kingsland High Street at 11.30am yesterday.

A lone female courier arrived at the location in a private taxi, and two thieves grabbed the gems.

A necklace and matching earrings stored in red boxes marked with the Cartier design were taken.

Police are hunting two men aged in their early 20s. In both robberies the men appeared to be unarmed.
