Charles returns to face royal scandal
Charles was shielded from the growing media circus as he carried out a tour thousands of miles away in Oman a country whose own newspapers made no mention of his difficulties.
He arrived back at Heathrow Airport just after 4pm, dressed in a dark overcoat, white shirt and blue and red tie. He kept his head down and ignored journalists and photographers.
He was whisked away in a royal car which was waiting for him at the bottom of the steps leading to the plane.
Reports say the beleaguered heir to the throne may be contemplating a personal TV appearance to quash allegations that he was seen in a compromising incident with a servant.
Charles made his way to his Gloucestershire sanctuary Highgrove and has no immediate public engagements at the start of the week. A Clarence House spokeswoman said they had not ruled out a TV appearance by the prince.
Meanwhile, it was reported yesterday the man who last week put the Prince of Wales at the centre of the crisis once questioned his sexuality.
His private secretary Michael Peat issued a statement to deny allegations of the "incident". But the prince's former key aide, Mark Bolland, yesterday claimed Mr Peat asked him a year ago: "Do you think Charles is bisexual?"
