Negative day for AIB and BoI

LAST week’s downward trend continued yesterday for the ISEQ Index. The exchange closed down 22.78 to settle at 6061.52.

Another negative day for Irish financial companies saw heavyweights AIB and Bank of Ireland lose ground amid steady trading. The former finished the day down 8c to €15.55, while the latter declined 20c to land at €12.40.

In the construction sector, Kingspan gained 60c, on the back of the company’s announcement to buy Century Homes in a deal worth €98m. McInerney also climbed 3c to conclude at €8.65. However, CRH and Grafton dipped 2c and 7c respectively.

Elsewhere, Waterford Wedgewood’s share price closed at 4.1c, marginally down from Friday. Food Group IAWS comfortably beat Interim forecasts and ended trading on a high note, up 8c to €11.86.
