Landslide kills 25 in China

AT least 25 people were killed and 22 others were missing after a landslide destroyed 52 homes in eastern China following Typhoon Rananim, state media reported yesterday.

The disaster in Zhejiang province’s Yueqing City injured at least another nine people, two of them seriously.

The landslide hit three mountain towns in Yueqing, paralysing transportation, communications systems and power supplies in the area, Xinhua said.

Geological experts said the landslide was caused by heavy rainfall from Typhoon Rananim, which slammed into Zhejiang last Thursday, killing at least 115 people and injured over 1,600.
