Parents are suspects in death of boy with Hunter Syndrome
Paramedics were called to the West Sussex home of Jacob Wragg, aged 10, on Saturday night following a 999 call.
The youngster, who suffered from Hunter Syndrome, was treated at the address in Henty Close, Worthing, before being taken to Worthing Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His parents Andy and Mary, who four years ago raised money for a mercy mission to South Africa to help another child suffering from the same condition, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.
The pair, both in their 30s, were remanded in custody at a specially convened court hearing at Chichester magistrates court on Sunday.
Police were given 36 hours, or until tomorrow morning, to question the couple about Jacob’s death.
Henty Close was cordoned off today as forensic experts continued a search of the property.
Friends of the Wraggs told how Jacob was the oldest of two boys and had recently been very poorly with the condition, which causes progressive physical deterioration.
One friend told the Brighton Evening Argus newspaper: “Jacob was a lovely lad but it was dreadful for everyone knowing he was going to die from this Hunter Syndrome.”
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said that a post mortem examination was being carried out on Jacob, but that the results would not be made public.
