Cesc Fabregas’ Como broke records on Wednesday night by beating a hapless Lens team 9-1 in the Champions League, making it the first time in the history of the competition that a team has scored nine goals away from home in a single game.
It also equals the most goals scored in a Champions League game - the other being Bayern Munich's 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb in September 2024.
What makes the win all the more extraordinary though is the Italian outfit, who currently sit fourth in Serie A, were playing away from home against 11 men.
An Anastasios Douvikas hat trick only begins to paint the picture of a ruthless night in the north of France.
Up until the 32nd minute it was a relatively close contest with Como only a goal ahead through an early Douvikas strike but the wheels came off for Yannick Cahuzac’s charges once the Greek player’s second hit the net not long past the half-hour mark.
Goals from Nico Paz - to add to his two assists - Lucas Da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf, Mattia Liberali, Martin Baturina and Matteo Papaccioli ensured it was a miserable, some might say damaging, night for the Frenchmen.
This demolition job is another notch on the belt of the former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Fabregas who coached Como to a 4-1 win over Manchester United on the 21st of October.
It's also Como's third win from four games to start their maiden campaign in the top flight of European football.
