Former Cobh Ramblers manager Mick McDermott is heading to the World Cup after the Belfast native reunited with Ghana boss Carlos Queiroz.
McDermott (52) assisted ex-Manchester United coach Queiroz during his spells in charge of Iran and Qatar before he took the standalone role as boss of Cobh for the 2025 season.
The former Glentoran manager led the Rams to runners-up behind First Division champions Dundalk but left in abrupt fashion ahead of their October playoff tie against Treaty United.
Indications of McDermott’s exit surfaced when he posted a cryptic message on his Instagram account.
“Football is pure and simple - about players, fans, relationships and honesty,” it read, accompanied by a picture in his office with belongings.
“It’s not a plaything or PlayStation. To the future!”
Now he’s back in the game and heading Stateside with the Black Stars. They drew 1-1 against Wales in Cardiff on Tuesday and will face Panama, England and Croatia in Group L of the tournament.
