SSE Airtricity First Division: Cobh Ramblers 2 Kerry 0

Rhys Gourdie and Wilson Waweru were on target as Cobh Ramblers beat Kerry 2-0.

It was a third win on the bounce for Cobh. Fran Rockett and his players started the campaign with just one win in seven games.

The resurrection has taken on many forms, with Cobh going into this Munster derby buoyant following victories over Athlone Town and Treaty United.

Out of this came confidence, and this led to a Dylan McGlade through ball to Gourdie in just the second minute. The midfielder finished well past Matthew Connor at the Liam McMahon Stand and the home side led 1-0.

Their second goal came from a weaving run by Rhys Brennan down the right flank. The winger tried his luck and drew a low save from the Kerry goalkeeper. That was parried out to Waweru for a close range finish, as Cobh doubled their advantage on the half hour mark.

The Ramblers could have got a third before the break, but efforts by Waweru were saved and one from Brendeán Frahill went over the bar.

Cian Bargary kicked off the second half with a blistering strike that went just wide at the far post.

The Kingdom went on to enjoy a prolonged spell in possession, but they rarely broke through the Cobh defence.

Kerry eventually went to their bench and they brought on Cian Brosnan, Daniel Okwute, and Ryan Perez in an attempt to get back in the game.

Cobh comfortably held their own, despite Niall Brookwell hitting the crossbar in injury time.
